SARMs and Body-Composition Research: Terms and Methods
The commercial term used in this page's established URL is not a scientific endpoint. Research papers instead distinguish fat mass, lean mass, total body weight, tissue-specific measures, energy-related pathways and laboratory biomarkers. Body weight is not body composition
A change in total weight does not identify which compartment changed or why. Body-composition studies may use dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry, imaging, tissue measurements or validated model-specific methods. Each method has limits, and results from one population or model cannot automatically be transferred to another.
SARMs and adjacent compounds are not the same class
SARMs are defined by selective interaction with the androgen receptor. Cardarine (GW-501516), although frequently discussed beside SARMs in performance-aware markets, is an investigational PPAR-delta agonist rather than a SARM. MK-677 is also not a SARM; it is commonly described in research literature as a ghrelin-receptor agonist. Grouping these compounds commercially does not make their molecular targets interchangeable.

- Lean and fat mass measured as separate compartments.
- Metabolic and lipid-related laboratory markers.
- Pharmacokinetic exposure and model-specific tissue distribution.
- Safety observations and regulatory status.
Why interpretation must remain cautious
Compound, model, endpoint and analytical method all shape the result. Preclinical observations do not establish human safety or an approved application. Even within clinical research, a measured endpoint should be interpreted in the context of the study design rather than converted into physique or performance guidance.
