What Is GHRP-6? Structure and Research Context
GHRP-6 is a synthetic hexapeptide studied as a growth-hormone secretagogue. Its research history concerns receptor signalling, pituitary response and interaction with endogenous growth-hormone-releasing pathways. GHRP-6 is not the same molecule as growth-hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH) or ghrelin.

The abbreviation means growth hormone-releasing peptide 6. The sequence is commonly written His-D-Trp-Ala-Trp-D-Phe-Lys-NH₂. Its six-residue structure includes D-amino-acid configurations that distinguish it from naturally occurring linear peptides and contribute to its experimental properties.

Early pituitary-cell experiments reported that GHRP-6 and GHRH could produce distinct desensitisation patterns. Human experimental research also found that endogenous GHRH materially influenced the measured response to GHRP-6. These findings illustrate interacting biological systems; they do not establish a universal response or an approved use.
